The Power of Colour and Texture - WDC 2014

We are delighted to have been selected as one of the recognised projects for Cape Town’s World Design Capital 2014.

Currently we are preparing our contribution to this exciting event taking place in the Mother City. We plan to explore the POWER OF COLOUR AND TEXTURE in a pop up exhibition space. We are delving deeper into this aspect of our work, expanding on the ideas we have developed and rejoicing in the effects that we have already seen in the lives of children who have been exposed to our safe and happy spaces.

By focusing on the ability of design elements to transform we aim to show people how simple it is to positively influence, inspire and bridge the divide.

The work of our Foundation goes hand in hand with the design influences in our work for hotels and private clients. The images below show how striking and powerful colour can be, celebrating design whether in the high-end market or in classrooms and refurbished containers.

Siyazingisa Primary School, Gugulethu - Background & Inspiration

We have been very priviledged to work with the Amy Biehl Foundation in the past and was given the opportunity again to create a Music/ Arts Container space for them to use at their aftercare programmes at Siyazingisa Primary School.

Our inspiration was as always based on the psychological use of colour and how it can enhance and inspire the lives of children, but we also used some of the ideas from the "Container Inspiration Competition" that was presented by the BTech Interior Design students of CPUT.

We used the colour elements from Adeeba & Lisa's project, the plastic crate wall from Madri & Sune's project and the music graphics from Siphiwe & Ayanda's project.

We were also very privileged to have Katie Martin, 3rd year Interior Design student from CPUT, intern with us for 6 weeks over the time that this container was developed and made.  She was of great assistance in making this project a reality, from designing the graphics, sourcing and buying furniture, also installing the interior and presenting 3D drawings for our inspiration and design.

Container Inspiration Competition - Winner

We were so overwhelmed with all the great and innovative ideas and it was quite difficult to choose one as the winner.  After a lot of thougth and discussion, we thought that the following project answered the brief and addressed all the elements the best.

We are excited to announce that the project presented by Adeeba & Lisa , BTech Interior Design students from Cape Peninsular University of Technology, was chosen as the winner of our Container Inspiration Competition.

Here is some incredible images from their project.
